Our menu for this week includes: Monday, May 13 – Biscuit and gravy, sausage, egg, potato wedge, fruit. Tuesday, May 14 – Cook’s choice. Wednesday, May 15 – Frito pie, baked potato bar, corn, fruit. Thursday, May 16 – Chicken nuggets, cottage cheese, 3 bean salad, coleslaw, cookie. Friday, May 17 – Ham and beans, potatoes, tomatoes, cornbread, fruit.
Supplements can be a godsend or a waste of money. Calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B-12 offer real health benefits, but Gisana ginseng, Promesil red clover extract and Garlique garlic are unproven or completely worthless. Selenium, beta-carotene and St. John’s wort might even harm you. You have to know which is which.
Not all artificial sweeteners are created equal: NutraSweet and Sweet N’ Low may promote cancer and sugar alcohols like sorbitol may cause diarrhea. On the other hand, Splenda and Truvia appear to be safe.
We were just shy of 100 in attendance at the Monday night jam session. It continues to be good music and good singing. The snacks continue to be many and very good. New people are showing up and we appreciate everyone.
The activities around the Center include: Monday – Jam session, 6-9. Tuesday – OATS bus to Ozark, DCCA Board Meeting, Retired Teacher’s Meeting, Karen’s line dancing class in basement 1:00 p.m. Wednesday – OATS bus in and around Ava, Extension exercise class 10-11. Thursday – Grace Health Care foot clinic (must have an appointment), Douglas County Health Department blood pressure 9:30-10:30, Driver’s exam 9:30-3:30 (motorcycle exam 10-11 only). Friday – OATS bus in and around Ava, Extension exercise class 10-11.
We had five tables and played five games at the pitch tournament on Tuesday. Sue Pool was winner with 223 points; Jerry Huffman came in a close second with 219 and Annabelle Walker was third with 214.
