The Young Women N Christ attended the Youth Retreat that was held last weekend at Hammond Mill Camp. They came back telling about the games and the really generous amount of food that was offered as well as the messages that they heard.
Pastor Bob Sorensen and his family attended a Pastor’s Conference at Grace Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas this week from Monday to Wednesday. They always report a good time and good preaching.
Next Sunday, April 28, we will have guests at Bethany Baptist Church. The man is the president of the Amazing Grace Mission that puts up booths at fairs and festivals to the present the gospel to people who may not go to church. They use banners and games to attract attention and give gospel tracts to the people who stop. They use volunteers from local churches to talk to the people who go by the booth.
The Youth Group presented a special song before Pastor Bob Sorensen brought a message from Matthew 16:21-26, “If Any Man Will Follow Me.”
Jesus was talking to the disciples, but when he said, “If any man will come after me…” he was speaking to all of us. If we want to avoid spiritual dumps, if we want to know how to get out of the valley of the shadow of death we need to follow Jesus Christ. Jesus was saying that in order to follow him to victory, we must first “deny self,” lay down our own ambitions and “die daily.” We should not spend our lives striving to obtain and hold on to more “things,” more dollars, more honors, more degrees, bigger houses, etc. Instead we should take up our individual cross. We do that when we identify with Jesus Christ. Jesus laid down all his glory when he came to the earth. When he took up the cross, he did so with a purpose. He laid down his life so that we could have eternal life. When we take up our cross, we can’t hold on to the old worldly lusts or the old habits. We put Jesus in first place and rejoice in doing so. We know that there is a price to pay, but the reward is great.
