T.O.P.S.

March 19th meeting was called to order by Sharon with 13 weighing in with a loss of 7 lbs. The high losers were Clara and Sharon.

The lesson was Balancing Act: Achieving a Healthy Balance. Feb. T.O.P.S. issue is on falls can be prevented. An analysis of balance studies found that muscle-strenghtening and balance retraining programs can decrease the risk to falls by 45 percent. Stand behind a chair lightly grasp the back of it and raise one foot or leg off the ground, hold 10 seconds, repeat  five times per leg. Other exercises that are good are tai’ chi’ and gentle other flexibility systems. Yoga is good for balance and flexibility. Exercise balls are another alternate.

T.O.P.S. (Take Off Pounds Sensibily) is a non-profit international weight-loss support group open to anyone 7 years of age or older. It meets every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the basement of the courthouse. Come and visit us and sit in on a meeting if you would like to find out more about T.O.P.S.
