The City of Ava Fire Department responded to Ava Place before noon Monday when an automatic fire alarm was activated. The building was evacuated and the facility’s automatic sprinkler system was activated.
When police and fire personnel arrived, it was learned that the building’s sprinkler system had been activated when a water line connected to the sprinklers was accidentally broken in the attic. Ava Water Department personnel were able to bypass the sprinkler system and turn the water back on, and residents were temporarily moved back into the north lobby which was not affected.
Heat and power is now back on in the north end of the building and 16 residents remain at the facility.
Some residents were transferred to Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center and some residents went home with family members while repairs are being made, a facility spokesman said.
