Bethany Baptist folks were glad to see the sun shining and the snow melted off the parking lot, Sunday morning. We still do have some folks facing health issues but a cheerful spirit prevailed. The young people met for music practice at 9:15 AM, the men met for prayer at 9:30, and Sunday school started at 10:00.
Announcements were made concerning the Young Women N Christ Bible Study, Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM, a Pizza and Movie Night Friday at 5:30, and a Work Day at 9:00AM Saturday. Every meeting to be held “weather permitting.”
Some of the women will meet to do some sewing for “Newborns in Need” Thursday afternoon. Bethany Baptist Church has some very capable seamstresses. Pat Banks had gone all the way to Alabama to learn some new sewing techniques and brought back some nice work. She wore an attractive quilted jacket and showed the ladies a beautiful Heirloom quality baby bonnet. Ruby Corder sews up bags that are given to Bible School students each summer and Kay Johnson brings in hand sewn gifts for our missionaries. Bethany Baptist is blessed with several Proverbs 31 women.
Pastor Bob Sorensen spoke from 2 Timothy 4:5-7 on “Finishing Your Course.” Paul was in prison and knew that he would soon die. In this “death bed” epistle, Paul would pass on to Timothy some of what he had learned in his effort to “fight the good fight.” First he should be stirred up in spirit and not lose the excitement and enthusiasm he had experienced when he was first saved and called to the ministry. He should be passionate about running his race and not forget those who will not finish their course, because they don’t know where the course is.
Like Timothy we need to be strong, nourished by the Word of God each day so that we will not be side tracked and falter along the way. We should be settled and faithful in that Word, equipped to face the perilous times that are certain to come and prepared to continue in the face of difficulty. We should be steadfast and unmovable, abounding in the work of the Lord. Life is tough, but Jesus wants us to live in abundance of joy, determined and purposeful in his service, always looking for his appearing, so that we may finish the race with joy and obtain that crown of righteousness.
