Harris Files For Mayor

Next Tuesday Is Filing Deadline For City, School, Ambulance Elections

Former Ava Mayor Leon Harris has filed as a candidate for mayor, challenging incumbent Eddie Maggard.

With filing for the annual municipal election set to close next Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m., this is the only race taking shape in the city thus far.

Incumbent East Ward Alderman Burrely Loftin and incumbent West Ward Alderman Billy Long have both filed for reelection.

In the Ava R-1 School District, only Jeff Davis and Don Scrivner have filed as candidates. Both Davis and Scrivner have previously served on the board but neither is serving at this time.

Skyline R-2 School District has a list of four candidates seeking election to two positions. Candidates are John Homer, Gary Lewis, and incumbents James Brixey and Dana Smith.

Only Logan Larsen has filed as a candidate for the Plainview R-8 School Board with two positions to be filled.

In the Ava Area Ambulance District, Vernon Johnson is a candidate for Board Position #5 with no other candidates filed.

Also to be filled is a board position in District #2.

District #2 includes the townships of Findley, Miller and Boone in Douglas County. District #5 is Benton Township west of Highway 5.
