The 97th General Assembly has officially commenced. New members have been sworn in and inaugural ceremonies, celebrations are behind us. Now, the task at hand is the work of the people.
Personally, this moment is bittersweet. For the past four years I have had the privilege to serve the fine people of the 144th District in the Missouri House of Representatives. Unfortunately, redistricting changed the configuration of the district lines and my new district no longer includes Douglas or the southwest portion of Texas County. Although it is sad to no longer have the opportunity to serve my previous constituency I look forward to the serving my new district, the 141st House District (see below), which includes the Southeastern portion of Webster County as well as Wright County.
Not only am I excited to be serving a new district, but I also welcome the chance to serve on new committees during the upcoming legislative session. I was honored to be chosen by Speaker of the House Tim Jones to serve as the chairman of the Committee on Financial Institutions. In addition, I was also selected to serve on the Committee on Agriculture Policy and the Committee on Utilities. Sitting on these committees will allow me to participate first-hand in the development of legislation that will directly benefit the district.
Without a doubt, Missouri faces numerous challenges. However, Missourians never turn away from a challenge, no matter how overwhelming it might seem at first. Time and time again the drive and determination of those that call Missouri home exemplify the power of working together. I look forward to working alongside my fellow Representatives and Senators to develop meaningful legislation that will help our great state prosper and grow.
As always, it is a privilege and an honor to represent you in the Missouri House of Representatives. I am grateful for the opportunity to be your voice in Jefferson City.
