Wow, our new year has started off with a bang. We’ve had 2 baptisms already this year, so praise God! Our goal is to bring more people to Christ so they can feel the great power and joy of the Holy Spirit moving in their life. Pray for these new Christians and encourage them to never give up along their journey.
Bro. Oren’s messages have been all about not giving up. This week, Heb. 12:1-11 tells us to stay focused. The journey is not always easy and when we face difficult and hard times we have to remember that Christ is with us. We can’t get through the tough times without Him. Those that walk with God always have the hope of eternal life with Him. Stay strong. Let others see that Jesus lives in you every day and under any circumstance, even during the hard days.
We have lots of prayer needs in our church family, our community and our world. Please pray for the Philippine relief and all our missions, both here and abroad. Pray for Lester Thurman, Louann Curry, Doris Elliott, Max Decker, Katherine Coats and the others on our list who are ill. Remember those who are still feeling the loss of a family member or friend. We all need prayers, so pray for each other to be strong, faithful, and as Pastor Oren says, fruitful. We also want to say we appreciate all our Sunday school teachers, volunteers in the church and children’s workers as well as Pastor Oren and Dwain. God bless you all for your hard work and service.
I know the weather has been jumping between warm and cold. It looks like the cold has us this week. Stay warm and we hope the ice and snow stay away. We will be dismissing Bible study on Jan 16th, due to our first quarterly business meeting at 7 p.m. We encourage you to come and if you are a member of this church, you do have a say in what is discussed. Youth services will also be dismissed that night.
We will have soup and chili fellowship after the evening service on Sunday Jan. 27th. Our Valentine’s banquet will be on Feb 10th at 6 p.m. so that gives you all something to look forward to. We do love our food and fellowship here at Ava General Baptist Church! Come and join us.
We want everyone to feel welcome at our worship or Sunday school services here. We have a lot of different classes to choose from. Sunday school helps us study a Bible lesson that lets us apply it to our lives in today’s world. We have large and small groups so we hope you will check it out at 9:45 a.m. It falls between our two morning services. Worship is at 8:30 or 10:45 a.m. and Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. If you’re ambitious and an early riser, we also have a Sunday school lesson before the first service and it starts at 8:00 a.m.
Have a great week and hopefully the weather won’t discourage you from coming to church next Sunday. If you don’t have a church home, we’d love to see you there.
