Rebecca Rose Burton, 59

Rebecca Rose Burton, 59 years, passed away on Nov. 2, 2012 at her home with her family by her side from a long battle with cancer.
Becky was born Jan. 15, 1953 in Ava, Mo., to Barney and Dolores Jean (Potts) Barnum. She graduated from Ava High School in 1970.
Becky was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. On  Aug. 12, 1983, Becky and Alvin Burton were united in marriage in Ava, Mo. She was working as a clinic manager with Cox Clinic at Dr. Christine Gentry’s office for the past several years and had also worked in Cox Clinic in Seymour.
Becky had served the community as an Emergency Medical Technician and later a Licensed Paramedic with the Ava Area Ambulance District for many years.
She was a dispatcher for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Dept. for two years.
Becky served her country in the U.S. Army Reserves. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
Becky enjoyed fishing, taking care of her animals and loved working outside. She delighted in spending time with all her nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Becky was preceded in death by her father, Barney Barnum; a brother, Robert “Bob” Barnum; her grandparents, Margaret and Leroy Potts; and her mother-in-law, Sybil Burton.
Becky is survived by her husband, Alvin Burton, Ava, Mo.; her mother, Dolores Jean Barnum, Ava, Mo.; three sisters, Carol Fuller and Sandra Jean Archer, both of Ava, Mo., and Patricia Haskill, Nixa, Mo., and one brother, Wes Barnum, Carl Junction, Mo.; father-in-law, Roy Burton, Ava, Mo.; her “grandchildren”, Wyatt and Gwendolyn Montle; many nieces, nephews and a multitude of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Becky were Monday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. in the Ava General Baptist Church.   Officiating was Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus, 807 N. Main St. Ste. 1 Mtn. Grove, MO 65711.
