Cheese, Evaporated Milk Approved for WIC

Effective Oct. 9, WIC will be allowing cheese and evaporated milk back in the food packages for women and children.

Some of the cheeses that are allowed on the program include store brand only domestic, 8 or 16 oz. blocks, American, cheddar (extra sharp, sharp, medium or mild), and colby, colby jack, Monterey jack and mozzarella cheeses. Store brand sliced (American cheese only) is also included.

The allowed types of evaporated milk are store brand only; evaporated whole milk, evaporated low fat/fat free milk in 12 oz. cans only.

Previously issued checks will not be replaced for the purpose of substituting cheese for milk. For additional information, please call the Douglas County Health Department at 417-683-4174.
