Ava FFA Members Attend Farm Fest

By Ivie Macy, Historian
On Friday, Oct. 5, 37 FFA members, two advisors, and three chaperones attended Farm Fest at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. At Farm Fest, members and visitors can buy, sell, or just see many faucets of agriculture. There were a variety of animals on display including dogs, horses, chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, sheep, donkeys, and an assortment of different breeds of cattle. Many farmers will actually buy cattle or other animals while at Farm Fest, which is a great advertising event for producers.  Part of the event was a stock dog demonstration, which showcases dogs’ ability to work cattle and sheep. There is also equipment on display and for sale that includes tractors, lawn mowers, concrete feeders, squeeze chutes, trailers, and other implements. These dealers are great resources to explain the new technology all the equipment has plus all the different uses. Farm Fest also has booths by agribusinesses and suppliers selling anything from fencing supplies, boots, tools, cattle feed, insurance, storm shelters, house décor, gloves, and many more. There are also drawings for free items such as cash, I-pod, gift certificate, or even a lawn mower. A variety of food can also be found including steak sandwiches, giant tenderloins, and foot long corn dogs.
This was not only a fun trip for those members who had earned enough leadership points; it was an educational day as we learned about agriculture and got to see actually products and animals.
