The Ava High School Lady Bears softball team is off to a 2-2 start, having defeated Liberty and Norwood and dropping games to Forsyth and Salem.
Ava opened the season last Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Mtn. View-Liberty with a 14-3 win over the Eagles.
Abbie Sparnicht recorded six strikeouts and walked three.
Callie Eubanks was 1-for-3 with three runs scored.
Ava JV and Liberty played to an 11-11 tie.
On the following day the Lady Bears were in Forsyth and took a 7-4 loss at the hands of the Panthers.
Each team had eight hits and four errors in the game.
Catcher Jace Swofford was 2-for-4 with a double. Misty Regennitter was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Ava JV defeated Forsyth 8-7.
The Ava bats were alive on Monday when the Ava girls hosted Norwood. Ava won the non-conference game 11-1 in five innings behind the hitting of Eubanks who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Kayte Aid, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Sparnicht struck out five Norwood batters and walked no one.
Ava JV defeated Norwood 7-6.
Tuesday afternoon the Ava girls were back on the home field once again, but this time the outcome was much different.
The SCA Salem Tigers pounded the Ava girls 12-1. Salem charted nine hits in the game and the Lady Bears committed four errors.
Lakota Blakey was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Bailey Lee was 1-for-2. Eubanks was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sparnicht recorded six strikeouts but walked seven batters. Ashlee Helm replaced Swofford behind the plate and caught the seventh inning.
The Lady Bears are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The girls will play at Sparta Friday and will be back home against Springfield Glendale next Tuesday, Sept. 4.
