Highway 5 From Ava to Mansfield Will Be Officially Named Sept. 8 Missouri Fox Trotting Highway

A dedication ceremony for the Missouri Fox Trotting Highway is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, at 5 p.m. at the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association in Ava.
This dedication ceremony will take place prior to the start of Saturday night’s championship show of the MFTHBA at the 54th annual Show and Celebration.
Representative Tony Dugger sponsored the legislation, naming Highway 5 in Douglas and Wright counties from Ava to Mansfield the Missouri Fox Trotting Highway.
Developed from horses in the Missouri Ozarks, the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse is characterized by a gentle demeanor and its signature gait, the fluid, diagonal 4-beat fox trot. Bloodlines can be traced from the horses of early settlers coming to the Ozarks from neighboring states of Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee and Arkansas. In 2002, the Missouri Legislature recognized the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse as the Official State Horse.
The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association is located one mile north of Ava on Highway 5.
The 2012 Show and Celebration of the Missouri Fox Trotters will begin Sunday, Sept. 2, and will run through Sept. 8 when the 2012 World Grand Champion Missouri Fox Trotter will be crowned in the closing event of the week-long show.
