Norwood Gleanings

Howdy. It has been very dry and hot in the Ozarks this week, but there have been a few people that were living right, so as they used to say, that got a little rain. If America has any prayer warriors left, we need to pray for rain and our country. There is a very important election coming up August 7. Please come out and vote. I still believe we do have that right, for now anyway.

Our birthdays this week are 11th, Adam Hill, and Ellie Watts, 12th Sharon Dugger and Augustus Sinnings, 13th Jeff Morgan, Brandon McIntosh and Doug Chadwell, 14th Zach Williams, H.O. Adler, 15th Jenna Gray, Jeff Dabbs, Stacy Collins, 16th Becky Dake, Doris Turner, Michelle Collins and Jennifer Boykin, 17th Teressa Strong, Dewey Haigler, Junior Wehrer, Kayla Buttram and the 18th Alice Allen, Don Dabbs, Garnet Grider, Curtis Prewett and Cindy Bradshaw. Our anniversaries this week are 11th Don and Norman Dabbs, 13th Wayne and Ruby Hopper, 14th Danny and Angie Boyd.

Hope you all had a fun 4th of July and a safe one. Hartville had theirs Sunday the 1st. I went and it was very good for all ages, except for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why they didn’t play straight Patriotic music when the fireworks were being lit up and it was even being put on by churches. I wasn’t the only one that noticed that. Maybe that’s something they can look into in the near future.

Talked to Annett (Harp) Bruffett this week and she said her dad, Berdell Harp got to come home from the hospital. He did have a heart attack and had two stints put in. They are waiting on a bone marrow test to come back on Monday and he said he didn’t realize how week he is, but he’s 82 years old. Glad to hear he’s doing better.

Sorry to hear about Tom Fisk passing away this week. He was a long time resident of Norwood.

I figured out what Melvin Mullet is growing on E Hwy. in front of his house. Blueberries. They should be mature in about two years. You might ask Jonas Yutzey about his unique beef processing. It’s definitely one of a kind. Alvin Mullet has been under the weather.

Talked to Ruth Bradshaw. She said they took Leo back to the doctor’s office for a check up and he is doing real good. They did say that his pace-maker will have to be replaced soon. She told me that Archie Coffman passed away. I didn’t know him, but she said a lot of the readers will.

Gorman Jones and Paul Vanderbogart had a run of bad luck. They both were hurt working cattle. Gorman broke his leg and Paul cut his finger and had to have stitches.

The Norwood Nazarene Church has been without a pastor for some time now. But that’s all fixing to change. Starting August 5, a local preacher, Alan Harp, will take the pastoring position.

R&M Restaurant now has central air, so there motto is, Don’t Eat in the Heat, Come on in and Cool Off.

Fun Facts: Before the town was plotted, there was a little Christian church. Later came a Presbyterian church. They had services only when a minister would pass through. Later they were served a circuit rider, who made regular trips to preach.

Challenge: Choose being kind over being right.

Until next week, God bless our little town.
