It’s common knowledge that there are more Bibles in the world than any other book. It’s also safe to say that there are more books written about the Bible than any other book. Now, just stop and think for a minute. There are probably more Bibles and books written about it than the national debt. That’s a pretty fantastic number but it makes one realize just how well Christians have covered the world with the Word of God over the last two thousand or so years. And, it all started with simple people writing on parchment the story and letters that had been given to them by God. These are the earliest believers.
It’s also well known that Christians have been pursued, ridiculed, tortured, and killed for the simple belief that Christ died on the cross, shed his blood for all mankind, was buried and arose the third day. These acts against Christians are being committed around the world as this is being read, some in this very country.
Jesus said a mouthful when he said that the world hated him first (John 15:18). But, for those who really are believers, there’s a joy that comes from deep within. Death is inevitable for this body, and sometimes with great pain. Disappointment, stress, loss, and sadness are part of the human condition.
When Jesus departed this world, he sent a Comforter in his place (John 14:16, 26). As believers read the Bible, study and try to learn more, the Holy Spirit (aka Comforter) really does open hearts to the things of the spirit (I Corinthians 2:13).
Jesus talked about building a good foundation that will stand against trials (Matthew 7:24-27. The Holy Spirit is the teacher, the Bible is the textbook, and the believer is the learner. Peter speaks of the believer as being a lively stone (I Peter 2:5) as Jesus was the living stone (I Peter 2:4). The Easter Brothers (a Bluegrass Gospel group) wrote a song called He’s the rock I’m leaning on. Gold City sings it now. It’s on YouTube and is worth listening to. Give it a try.
