Sunday, May 13th, was the Fifth Sunday after Easter. Bishop Hartley based his sermon on the Epistle for the day, St. James 1:22, “Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only,” in which James stresses the need for Christian faith to be shown to the world in action and deeds and not only in feelings. The church as the community of believers in the world is the principle means that Christians have of putting their faith to work in the world.
After the service we enjoyed an excellent potluck dinner followed by our bimonthly vestry meeting during which the church finances were discussed as well as practical matters such as repairing our fences on the property. Bishop Hartley also reported in more detail on the seminar on church growth which he and other members of the church recently attended in Branson. We were also happy to have Jennifer Berthold with us on break from the College of the Ozarks, before she returns there for the summer.
Bishop Glen Hartley holds services at St. Francis Anglican (traditional Episcopal) Church, Sundays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Our website is: stfrancisavamo.org
