Domestic Disturbance Leads to Arrest on Various Drug Charges

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance Tuesday that resulted in the arrest of an Ava man on numerous charges.
Deputy Brad Loveless responded to the call on County Road 246. Upon arrival, he arrested Anthony Dean Maggard, 41, of Ava, and placed him on a 24-hour hold.
During the investigation, marijuana plants were found growing in the residence, along with marijuana smoking pipes and two needles loaded with Oxycotin, ready for injection.
A warrant was issued for domestic assault 2nd degree, possession with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Bond was set at $60,000 and Maggard was still incarcerated Wednesday.
Sheriff Chris Degase said the abuse of prescription drugs is a major issue and his department will continue to aggressively attack the problem.
