Cutting costs doesn’t have to ruin your quality of life.  Here are five rules of frugality:  1-Don’t give up the things you love.  Thriftiness should never outweigh happiness.  2-Find inexpensive ways to enjoy what’s important to you.  You don’t have to own the books you read or the movies you see.  There’s plenty of free music on your radio and computer.  3-Cut back on anything not crucial to your happiness.  Give thrift shops a try.  4-Never go shopping without knowing exactly what you’re getting.  It’s the things you don’t need that sacrifice your dreams.  5-Use the 30-day rule.  Jot down the big item you’re considering.  Give yourself a month to think about it and find the lowest price.  Then ask yourself if you truly want it.

Our menu for this week includes:  Monday, May 21–Cheeseburger, lettuce, onion, coleslaw, peaches.  Tuesday, May 22—Beef stew, salad bar, biscuit, fruit crisp.  Wednesday, May 23—Ham and beans, potatoes, spinach, cornbread, pudding.  Thursday, May 24—Cook’s Choice.  Friday, May 25—Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables, cake.

The activities include:  Monday—Pitch tournament, OATS bus to Ava and Goodhope.  Tuesday—OATS bus to Branson.  Wednesday—OATS bus to Ava.  Thursday—Driver’s exam in the basement.  Friday—OATS bus to Ava.

The pitch tournament winners from May 7 in five games were Sybil Heckendorn (216) Mabel Everett (214) who gave her spot to Mary Myers (207) and third place went to Hulda Tipton (206).  Congratulations to these winners.  It was good to see B.J. and Max out to play cards with us.

There were not enough players to have the pinochle tournament on May 9.  We’ll try again next month on the second Wednesday.

We appreciate Barbara Sanders for bringing in flowers and tomato plants to help with our fundraiser efforts.

Until next week, have a good one!
