Ava Lions Walk-Run Event This Saturday

A night at a five star hotel in Branson is one of the prizes being given to a lucky runner at the Lions 5/10K Walk-Run event this Saturday.

Although we can’t list them all, a single $10 registration fee will get the participant $25-$30 in free food coupons plus discounts on many more items from local merchants.

Once again, the Branson shows have responded to the Lions project of sight and hearing for the young people in our community. The Lions are offering tickets to many of the best shows in Branson, a dinner cruise on the Showboat Branson Belle, Silver Dollar City tickets, oil changes, tire rotations, and free dinners from restaurants in Ava, Ozark, Branson and Springfield.

In addition, many businesses have given free pies, pizzas and even a lawn care service.  Two coupons for scuba diving lessons will also be awarded. This is an outstanding coupon for the lucky winner because, upon completion of the course, the individual will be certified with an open water scuba certificate.   Jewelry, flowers, milk, soda, candy bars and water are also among the items to be distributed to all participants.

It’s still not too late to sign up and receive the myriad of gifts and prizes.  Individuals can register right up to the start of the event on Saturday morning.

The runners’ classes will be age 16 and under, 17-25, 26-35, 36-45, 46-55 and 56 and older.

Trophies will be given to the first, second and third place runners in each category.  The category is also divided into both male and female categories. Walkers will not receive trophies but they will receive a participant packet and are eligible to win one of the many great prizes being offered.

A table with bananas, oranges and cold milk and sodas will be available for all participants.

The Lions met early Monday to prepare the runners packets by inserting the coupons and other assorted items. They were assisted by students from 4-H and the National Honor Society in preparing the packets. The Lions are also looking forward to their assistance Saturday morning.

The start/finish line for the race this year is at Cross Point Church, one quarter mile west of the swimming pool on Y Highway.  Runners will go west on Highway Y past the golf course to the designated turn around points.  They will then return to the church finish line.  Road guards will be posted at the corners to advise traffic of runners in the area.  BACA will again be assisting in traffic  control and safety.

“The weather is expected to be outstanding for this event and everyone is invited to come walk, greet, talk and visit with your friends while helping our community help our youth”, Morrison said.
