Easter is April 8th. Sweden Church has a sunrise service at 7 a.m. and breakfast at 8 a.m. After breakfast, some stay for Sunday school and church and others must leave. In any event, everyone is welcome to come and thank the good Lord that He has seen fit to bestow His grace on us.
What is sin? As a Sunday school teacher some years ago, some of the teenagers would look me square in the eye and tell me that they didn’t sin. Their parents were Christians, they were Christians. These sweet youngsters were earnest in the belief that they were sin free. Oh, to be young! Without knowing it, their sin was one of pride. Proverbs 16:18 speaks of the doom that accompanies it. Although they were aware of the Ten Commandments and, of course, they hadn’t done any of these; they were unaware of the inward sins.
There is a little book called What Is Sin? What Is Virtue? by Robert J. McCracken. He was a well-known preacher of the 60′s. In it, he lists seven sins—pride, envy, anger, sloth (laziness), avarice (greed), gluttony, and lust. The Bible also speaks to these subjects.
The other part of the book lists seven virtues. They are wisdom, justice, temperance, courage, faith, hope, and love. As with sins, these are also found in the Bible.
The author of the book compels the reader to make a self-diagnosis of the inner life. He also goes on to say that mental honesty has to happen before mental, moral, and spiritual health can take place.
Sweden Church gladly gives away copies of the sermons on CD. Call (4l7)543-6219 to get a copy. Live like Jesus came yesterday, died today, and is coming back tomorrow.
