Hello everyone. Well, it didn’t rain on Easter Sunday, at least not in our area, but we did get a good rain on the following Sunday. I guess the belief that whatever the weather happens to be on Easter Sunday will be followed by the same for the next seven Sundays does not always prove to be true.
The windy, rainy weather did not dampen the spirit of those that attended Church at Red Bank last Sunday. We had a good attendance in the regular Worship service and in Children’s Church. Brother Jake opened the morning service by leading in hymns. Brother Jerry welcomed everyone. Brother Les announced that a benefit to help one of our own, Jarrett Dougherty would be held at the Ava Family Theater Sunday evening, April 15th, beginning at 5:00 p.m. He encouraged everyone to attend. Celebrating her third birthday with a mission offering was Miss. Zorianna Maggard. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to her and Jeane Huff who was also celebrating a birthday.
For this Sunday’s sermon, Brother Les read Scripture from John 15:22-36 which tells the story of how Pilate, finding no fault in Jesus, only released Him to be crucified at the insistence of the Chief Priest and others seeking to rid themselves of Jesus because they feared His followers would want to make Him King of the Jews, and they would lose their jobs. Pilate released Jesus to be crucified by the Jews, but only if they agreed to place the sign that he had prepared to be placed at the head of the Jesus’ cross with the words, “JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.” In Numbers 15:37-41, God told Moses to have the children of Israel, throughout their generations, to make them fringes on the borders of their garments with a ribbon of blue upon it to remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them; and not seek after their own heart and their own eyes and stray from Him. He said, “I am the Lord your God.” Now, we as His people, have the Cross of Jesus to remind us that He gave his life in payment for our sins if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. We read in John 14:6 that Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jake Hampton hosted a birthday party, Sunday afternoon, in honor of his mother, Jeane Huff. Those attending were David and Terinda Hampton; Rex Hampton; Jasper, Konner, and Chandlyn Nelson; Danny, Karri, Emma and Kate Hampton; Jake Hampton; Gary, Alice and Maxine Lirley; Ralph and Barbadeen Laughlin; and Kenny and Steven Thomas. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal of barbequed hamburgers along with many other delicious foods. Of course, a big, beautifully decorated birthday cake along with lots of ice cream was also served.
Visiting with Maxine Lirley one day last week was Jeane Huff and Gary and Alice Lirley. Gary and I found Maxine and her sister, Willene Adams playing a new word game. It was a bit like the Scrabble game we used to play, but one could stack the letters to form other words. It looked like a fun game, but Gary and I just watched them as they played. I think we were afraid they would make us look bad by thinking of more words to spell than we could. They both have sharp word spelling skills, and they practice them a lot. It was fun to watch them having fun.
That’s all the news for now. Take care and have a great week.
