As we conclude our study on angels lets do a brief summary. Who are angels? The Bible says they are ministering spirits (Hebrews chapter 1). What do they do? In Hebrews chapter 1 it says they minister to those who are heirs of salvation. When do they minister? Psalm 103 says they act when they hear the voice of God’s word. Where do they work? They work here in this physical world and also in the spiritual world that is around us, and often remain unseen. Acts chapter 12 gives a great example of a spiritual being, the angel of the Lord, working visibly in our physical world as he kicked Peter in the side to awaken him and help him escape from prison. In II Kings chapter 6, the mountainside was full of horses and chariots of fire that were unseen by the servant of Elisha until God enabled him to see in the spiritual realm. After he could see in the spiritual realm the servant understood what the prophet meant when he said, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. Why are they ministering to Believers, or as the Bible calls them, heirs of salvation? Because of the grace of God towards you. God loves you and is willing to help you be the very best child of God and share the goodness of God and his salvation through Jesus with others who do not know him yet. Believers need “behind the scenes” workers to help us fulfill our role as children of God.
When you pray for someone, you are dispatching angels to their aid. When someone prays for you, angels go before you and help in what you do. When you pray (prayer is simply talking with God, it is a conversation with your Father) for the salvation of a sinner (we were all sinners before being born again) angels work to point that person toward God.
We can see how the word of God works through prayer in those ways because we know it is the will of God that everyone be saved (John 3) and we know that we are suppose to pray for one another and bear each others burdens (Heb 13, Gal 6).
God also knows that we are waging war against the devil and his angels. Did you know the devil is a fallen angel? The devil is a spirit on earth and he and his angels are working hard in the physical and spiritual realms to steal, kill and destroy everything that is good (John 10). God has armed his children with the same type of weapon that can work in the physical and spiritual realms to minister to the heirs and glorify Himself – and Jesus has won the victory for us, but it is up to us to enforce the victory by using the word of God against the devil and his ilk….the devil must respond and obey the word of God. He may be a fallen angel but he is still an angelic being and our Lord Jesus defeated him with the word of God and we can too. If you haven’t learned a lot of the promises of God yet I encourage you to get into the word and see the good things your loving Father has for you right now in Jesus Christ. Put those words in your mouth, not the words of the thief who want to kill and destroy you. Put words of life in your mouth the words of God, and remember the angels hearken to the voice of God’s word and they will work to see it bear fruit.
We answered the who, what, when, where, and why. The how is up to our awesome God. We don’t have to know how electricity works to use it and appreciate it, the same way with the ministry of angels when we put them to work and appreciate our Father for providing them.
Until next time, God bless you and your loved ones.
