Lula May Kellogg, 99

Lula May Kellogg, 99 years, passed to heaven on Feb. 24, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor, Farmington, Mo.

Lula was born May 23, 1912 in Squires, Mo. to Charles Monroe and Stella Adeline (Kennedy) Spurlock.

On April 5, 1940 Lula and Martin Kellogg were united in marriage in Ava, Mo., and to this union four children were born. They resided in Seymour and Springfield before moving to their farm south of Ava in 1945. Lula joined Black Oak General Baptist after her salvation and baptism in 1952 and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing hymns. After retirement they moved into Ava. In 2006 she moved to Farmington, Mo.

Lula attended Kolb Elementary and she graduated from Ava High School in 1932. She attended Missouri State University in Springfield. She taught rural elementary schools for eight years. She was a member of Auxiliary of the Gideons International. She served on the Douglas County Extension Council and was also a member of WPFA.

Lula loved her family and looked forward to their gatherings. She enjoyed hosting family and friends.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Martin, two brothers, John and Fred Spurlock, five sisters, Velma Davis, Mary Turner, Elsie Russell, Maude Robertson and Ethel Warden.

Lula is survived by four children and their spouses, Wayne and Sue Kellogg, Springdale, Ark.,  Evelyn and Gary Moore, Soldier, Iowa, Harold and Geri Kellogg. Dallas, Texas, and Anita and Jim Lyon, Farmington, Mo.; eight grandchildren,  Christina Brown, Marti Sturdevant, Kirk Kellogg, Susan Franz, Mark Kellogg, Kim Van Vacter, Derek Kellogg and Greg Kellogg; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles “Chuck” Spurlock, Ava Mo.; and one sister, Lela Nash, Lake Winnebago, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Spurlock, Squires, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Lula were Monday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo., with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was  Monday from 1 p.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating was Pastor Oren Alcorn.
