Ava High Class of 1942 Plans 70-Year Reunion

Believe It or Not the Ava High School graduating class of 1942 will celebrate their 70th reunion this year at the Alumni Banquet to be held on Saturday, May 5.

Reunion organizer Edwin Hailey remembers how Dec. 7, 1941, changed the lives of the students, possibly more than any other class before or since.  The Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor on that Sunday morning made school on Monday a different place.  Hailey recalls how the entire Ava School filled the gym that Monday morning at 10 a.m. for the shocking news and announcement.

Down through the years, Hailey has called the 1942 graduating class the “Pearl Harbor Class”.

Many from the class were lost in WWII, and today, the youngest class members are in their late 80s.

Classmates are urged to attend and participate this year.  Prior to banquet festivities, a classroom near the gym has been reserved for classmates to gather and visit.

However, for those who cannot attend the event, please write a letter telling of your life experiences over the years, and send it to:

For those attending the reunion, the Alumni Banquet is Saturday, May 5, at the school.  Advance tickets are available for $15 at the Douglas County Herald, Town & Country Bank and Ava Drug. Tickets purchased the evening of the banquet are $18.
