The Piece & Friendship Quilt Guild met Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Ava General Baptist Church. During social time, which started at 6:30 p.m. a delicious array of refreshments was enjoyed by the group. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
Connie Bacorn passed out the beautiful new yearbooks with guild and member information. It was noted Pat Henry is looking for ideas from members for upcoming guild programs.
February’s program, presented by Janet Volkl, is entitled, Divide & Conquer: How to machine quilt a large quilt in smaller sections.
Helping Hands chairman Debbie Stone announced the group would continue the project for Newborns In Need and making blocks for baby quilts.
Ways and Means chairman Sara Sawyer announced the winners of the evening’s drawings.
Debbie Stone presented the evening program, and demonstrated a cut and fold technique. The group learned how to fuse and cut layers of fabric to reveal a unique multicolored applique. Debbie also showcased a beautiful red, black and white king-size quilt made using this technique.
The meeting concluded with a show and tell session with several displaying their latest projects, and Connie Bacorn sharing her very first quilt. Next month all members are encouraged to bring their first quilts to the session.
The Piece & Friendship Quilt Guild meets the second Thursday of the month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ava General Baptist Church. The meetings unite quilters of all ages and abilities for the purpose of friendship, inspiration, motivation and education. Visitors and new members are welcome.
